The thermostat for my A/C didn’t seem to be running right the past few days. I thought about just changing the batteries but decided a programmable one would be a good idea. I looked up how to change one on line and it didn’t look too complicated. I grew up in the home of a contractor and regularly went to jobs with my dad. I’ve also watched hours and hours of HGTV/DIY type shows. I’ve undertaken a lot of minor home improvement projects in the past but for a couple of years I’ve been afraid to try anything. Nothing bad every happened and my projects aways turned out great … just a nagging fear had set in and seemed to get worse. I’d get ready to do something and not follow through or find a family member to take care of it. Today, something inside me said “you can do this”. I didn’t hesitate to get the job done. It was more complicated that I thought due to a difference in the wiring diagram, but I took my time and figured it out and everything runs great.
I’ve got other areas in my life where I used to have confidence and somehow it’s gone. It’s time to transition this experience over and build my confidence again. For whatever reason, we sometimes get into a mindset that keeps us from moving forward … I was feeling this in my writing, my reading, and in my dreams … I analyze things to extremes and end up stuck in one place and spinning my wheels digging deeper and deeper ruts.
I don’t have any magic words to automatically turn things around. I can tell you that I’ve worked to consistently take some kind of action to move forward for the past several weeks … writing a little every day, reading a little every day (books, blogs, etc), researching for my website. I am putting forth conscious effort … not just existing on auto pilot.
What is on your “to do” list that you’ve been putting off because you don’t think you can? Do you need to pick a place to start and just do “something” to move forward? Even if it’s just a little bit, it’s better than not moving at all or moving backwards. If you’ve been in “this place” for more than just a rest or breather, pick one thing you can do and do it. Then let me know how it goes. The temperature is rising under the kettle (dreams) of your life … time to do something about it.
